(1/2)HOBART rider Mykaela Briggs won back-to-back open titles in the 2012 state showjumping championships at the Inveresk Showground yesterday.
Riding Starstruck Juliet, Briggs finished two rounds of jumping in the feature event with the lowest penalty score over 13 fences, each a metre and 30 centimetres in height.
Longford’s Robert Casey finished runner-up.
The 1.20m championship was won by Hobart’s Andrew Gibson on Back In The Game, with Patersonia’s Kirsten Towns runner-up on Jeremiah Lad.
Westbury’s Jo Geard won the 1.10m championships on her horse Any Danger.
The open speed championship went to George Town’s Ashton Brown on Dakota Shan.
About 80 riders from across the state took part in the two-day championships.
“We’ve been lucky with the weather after it rained overnight on both days, but it cleared up during the day and we’ve had good spectator numbers,” Tasmanian Showjumping Association president Claire Walker said.
“We’ve had two good days of jumping after a long spring showjumping season.”
Walker said the equestrian riders would take a break over Christmas before contesting a summer program of events.
