The Golden Highway has now reopened near Denman following a fire which hadclosed the highwayin both directions since late yesterday afternoon.
A Rural Fire Service spokesman said 12 tankers and 17 firefighters were building containment lines at Dalswinton this morning, with six aircraft working to extinguish the 300-hectare blaze last night.
Aerial support is expected to continue today.
Crews have also been facing a separate haystack fire on Brisbane Road at Morpeth since about 3am today, with five crews still on scene.
An excavator is on scene, pulling apart 40 one-tonne bales of hay to extinguish the fire.
Hunter Valley police are advising motorists to be wary of smoke in the surrounding areas.
