Launceston Church Grammar School student Clara Tyeson with her camp buddy Shaun Butwell, 11. Picture: NEIL RICHARDSONSANTA arrived in a red-and- white helicopter for the final day of a three-day camp for children with special needs in Launceston yesterday.
The man in the red suit was a highlight of Launceston Church Grammar School’s Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camp, held at the school’s Mowbray campus.
The camp paired students with 17 children with special needs.
The pairs were supported by other Grammar students and staff.
Grammar headmaster Stephen Norris said the annual event was in its eighth year.
Mr Norris said organisers had scaled back the program because participants had been too busy.
He said the campers developed a bond as they shared experiences and learnt from each other.
“Now we take more time to let that bond develop,” Mr Norris said.
“It’s really important that that bond works well and both kids get the maximum out of the experience.”
